Resilience is vital to good health and wellbeing. As the Chinese say, bend like bamboo, strong and flexible at the same time. When life brings along a great wind, wild and crazy, having the potential to uproot your life, are you going to be a fixed and dry trunk which has a much greater chance of snapping altogether? Or are you going to be a bamboo which can sway and bend with the wind? The bamboo is more resilient, because it has bend and flexibility.  The winds of life come anyway. It is our approach that makes the difference between surviving a storm and growing stronger through it or giving up altogether and ending up defeated by life.

Adelaide builds resilience in people. Adelaide quietly encourages and teaches resilience. It does this through the way that we as a community don’t like flightiness, instability or erratic behaviours. This vibe is a strong one and it has also been called snobby, boring and conservative.  But all these are just words trying to find the real reason for what is actually an approach to life that is balanced and grounded. This in turn builds a more discerning population.

Becoming a more discerning individual means becoming more resilient, because as you become more discerning, you also come to know what supports your wellbeing and what does not. So you are better able to avoid or turn away from whatever detracts from your wellbeing. As a community, Adelaide builds resilience through its discerning nature of things.

Discernment means the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff and make choices that enhance wellbeing, this ripples out to our families and in turn our community.
